WARNING: This post is neither funny (not that they ever are) nor informational (which, I would argue they sometimes are).
This morning, before work, my dad made me an egg sandwich on a whole grain English muffin with fat free cheese. I was running late and he brought it to me on a little plate with a napkin in the bathroom as I was negotiating whether or not I would brush my hair today. My family is not good at doing nice things for each other, in fact, we excel at doing meanish things to each other or just ignorning each other, so this broke off a tiny piece of my frozen heart. And it made me think back to one afternoon, many summers ago (e.g. 20) when I wanted to swim in my newly inflated kiddie pool, but it was simply too chilly out for the sun to heat the water. Know what Dad did? He got out every pot and pan and started heating water on the stove to dump into the pool. Then he loaded up a bucket with hot water from the bathtub. Heartbreak city.

That is a sweet post.
But: Is Dad bringing you some breakfast while you're busy in the bathroom a little creepy?
just because you're living off of honey and cayenne doesn't mean you can rain on my nostalgia parade. also, the bathroom is where the mirror and good light is.
It's amazing what lengths good parents go to when they love their children. It's nice to hear it being acknowledged while your dad is still here with you.
no no no. what people out there don't know is what a huge local celeb Blythe's dad is (for real, he is) and that he's hugely jealous that he's not featured in Bee-Spot blog regularly. maybe you ought to just add a "Tuesdays with Dr. B" section to your blog and dazzle us with his stories.
(also, we would LOVE a "Tipsy Tuesdays with Mrs. B" section.) the pictures alone would sell it. yeah, you know the ones.
Hmmm... the last time my parent's made me breakfast I was a teenager.
awww, your dad is like my mom!
did you brush your hair? i hope not.
I would also welcome a "Tipsy Tuesdays with Mrs. B" weekly post.
step right up - yeah, he's good people.
mr. shain - he is kind of a celebrity and he does want to guest blog, but then it'll be better than me and well, i just can't have that.
oh, and tipsy tuesday could probably be arranged. but just for you.
5of9er - that's the funny thing, no one has ever really made me breakfast before. i didn't know how to react.
annie - i've got naturally fabulous hair that requires very little upkeep. i'm lucky that way. actually, it's rained 146 days in a row and i just wake up, look in the mirror and say fuck it. and actually, that happens regardless of the rain.
dan - i'll bet you would. there's one post and two pictures buried in the blog. happy hunting!
I haven't felt this emotional since I read The Bridge To Terabithia (this was last week).
Thanks?
is your dad, a 'wait for the other shoe to drop' kind of guy? like, will he expect something in return for making you breakfast? will it make the making of breakfast pale in comparison?
maybe i'm just projecting how my family members would behave...
