It's Friday, I'm in Love (except it's Thursday, but I'll be busy tomorrow)

with The Voice: Steve Perry.

The image “http://www.nndb.com/people/937/000047796/steve-perry.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

If you know me at all (and no one really does because, let's face it, who would want to? I am dark and twisty, but not in a sexy Meredith Grey kind of way, in a Shannen Doherty mixed with Kathy Griffin kind of way - I don't even know what that means.) chances are you're aware that I have an unusual affinity for all things Steve Perry and/or Journey related. The Voice is ranked number one on my list of top male singers ever (he is followed by Michael Bolton, Bob Dylan and Richard Marx - j/k, my real list is The Steve Perry, Freddy Mercury and Michael Bolton) and I will argue the angelic supremacy of his otherworldly vocal chords forever, or at least until my Pop-Tart is done. While The Steve Perry has always been (a) God in my book, it was the inclusion of the poptastic hit "Don't Stop Believin" in the exquisite finale of The Sopranos that brought Journey to the forefront of American culture. Again. [Where a band this great belongs. By this I mean before Steve Perry left.] Which is great for me, because now I have a legitimate reason to engage strangers in conversation about the greatness of that song, the band and SP. I want "Don't Stop Believin'" played as my first (choreographed) dance at my wedding. I want it blaring when we sign the divorce papers. I want it blasted at my funeral. Honestly, one of my happiest memories is jumping up and down at Siobhlogger's wedding to the live band that played the SHIT out of our request. It's also the only memory I have of her wedding, but that's neither here nor there. This song makes me want to be from New Jersey. Or maybe even Detroit. This song makes me want to hop into a Camero with T-tops and get a perm. I want to spontaneously translate this song into Spanish. I wish my name were Sherrie. Maybe just my middle name.

I thought you also remembered walking in on my brother and my slutty friend/bridesmaid in a compromising position?! That was almost exactly 2 years ago...I suppose I should get over that, huh?

Like the blog makeover! I'll try not to be too offended that you dropped me from your blogroll...though I won't lie...I'm feeling a little burned by the fact that pregnantigoni is still there and hasn't posted a thing since May (nor is she "preg" anymore).

June 1983, Rosemont Horizon - Journey was the first concert I ever went to. Yeah, I was even cool back then.

My jr. high choir performed Don't Stop Believing for one of our choir concerts. We performed it on risers on a stage in the auditorium with arm movements and dance moves. It was the shit!

My vote for great male vocalists: George Michael

How can you not love Steve Perry's voice? It sounds like his nuts are in a vice. I love that song. I think everyone in America is a fan of Journey-how can you not be. Cherry-that is awesome you saw them at the Horizon. I remember that concert being advertised on "the LOOP"-damn I love the Midwest.

dark and twisty bee-spot. if you were a molly ringwald character, would you be molly in breakfast club, pretty in pink, or fresh horses?

I'm wasted on Cisco.

dan - i think i'd be molly r. circa "for keeps?" - and i'm wasted on crisco.

blythe is 100% breakfast club... our entire high school experience was like one, long breakfast club. even though we went to different high schools.

Let me congratulate you on being the first person who is not currently living with me to comment on my blog. (And, for the record, by 'congratulate' I mean lavish praise upon. And, yes, as I write this I have one of your links to "Don't Stop Believin" playing on my laptop. Strangely it only makes me think of Journey Escape.) Thank you, thank you, thank you. Apparently, the publicity via VonTrapperKeeper is working out well.

As for the BBQ, I am originally from Arkansas near the TN border and let me say, with all due respect, perhaps you don't completely understand the concept of Memphis BBQ. I forgive you. Until today, I didn't understand the concept of North Carolina BBQ, yet I was blown away.

One last thing. I just took a look at your profile pic and I have to say that your heart line is quite impressive. While there's a distinct break somewhere in early adulthood, beyond that point, apparently, you are going to be lovin' your ass off.

Again, thanks for commenting.

I'm thinking of dark and twisty bee-spot as breakfast club molly with fresh horses molly rising. but, i've had a few light beers and two shots of peppermint schnapps since my last comment, so i don't know. I think it's bedtime. no wait - Revenge of the Nerds is on. I'll be up for at least another hour. until the schnapps kick in...

dear the practical slacker,

you're more than welcome. don't stop believing is right.

also, i attended the illustrious rhodes college for a brief stint and still have wet dreams about corky's. like last night. so, OK bbq better than MA/new england, does not hold a candle to memphis. (NC is too vinegary for me or something.) harpoon has a pretty sweet barbeque festival in windsor, VT during the summer, i think. you should check it out.

as for my heart line, i hope i start loving soon cause i have a fair amount of ass.

dan - oh schnapps!
