Zack Harrison Memorial Music Monday: Embarrassment City

I am an awkward dancer - I mean, like Elaine having seizures. Last night, while rigidly bopping along to the musical stylings of Mike Hosty at The Deli, eighth grade algebra crush spotted me and grabbed me by the arm forcing me to participate in the most awkward of dances. I tried to appear carefree, flexible, having a great time, all that stuff, but inside, I was dying. I am anything but carefree. I am not flexible. I rarely have a good time or any of that stuff. And I can not spontaneously and effectively bar dance to alt-country. But I tried. I've been having those embarrassing flashbacks all day. Thank you Mr. Hobbes.

In this spirit, I present you with my list of songs that I find embarrassing to like. Perhaps controversial, but I find these songs to be of little musical or lyrical value although culturally relevant in some ways. Blah.

Eternal Flame - The Banlges (Susanna Hoffs melts my heart.)

I actually enjoy the Postal Service's version of Against All Odds. Also, I believe history will eventually remember Savage Garden as the great unacknowledged gem of 20th century music.

yeah, me too. but i'm not ashamed to say it, which is why it didn't make the list.

truly madly deeply.

the fact that you can't find anything musically or lyrically valuable in Journey makes me cry. they're just too ridiculously awesome.

Um... the only reason you should be embarassed about this list is the Patrick Swayze song. I mean the rest of those are just wonderful!

This is a bold blog post. I'm impressed by your honesty. You've inspired me to admit that I loved "Duets".

And that I went to a Phish/Spin Doctors concert once ... to see the Spin Doctors.

well, yes, they're wonderful, but not in a bob dylan/beatles kinda way. you know what i mean? they're kind of like the kraft macaroni and cheese of music.

"Love is a Battlefield" is an awesome song. I would never be ashamed to admit that I love it.

You LIE. As the honored observer of many of your grooverific stylings, I feel obligated to correct the "bad dancer" statement. It's just not true.

lie schmie. when was the last time you saw me dance? with too much booty in my pants? oh smith college dance parties. how i miss you.

also, like i said, i know this list is controversial. while i adore these songs, they are not musically sound any way you slice it. i am a snob.
